How we rate helmets

Real-world crash data studied

Hiper test methods are built on real-world data, including more than 1,200 impacts examined in published studies to find where and how helmets are most often hit.

State-of-the-art impact simulations

Helmets are tested on a bespoke rig developed at Imperial College under the angled (oblique) impacts common in real crashes, which rotate the head more. A state-of-the-art headform makes our risk of injury results more biofidelic.

Our testing methodology →

Results turned into injury risk

Head motion from each test is used to estimate the risk of skull and brain injury from direct impact forces (linear risk) and rotation of the head (rotational risk).
